Frequently Asked Questions

Homework, Studying, & Grades

How much should I be studying?
Whether questions are due or not, you should be studying for at least 15-20 minutes.
Do you have any large projects?
We do have a few projects, but they are all substitutes for reading questions. Therefore, none of them should represent extra work.
What is the late work policy?
You can hand in one late assignment. You will not get credit for any others.
But I already used my late assignment and my printer is out of ink. What do I do?
Save your late assignment for an emergency. I also suggest not waiting until the last minute.
Why is the homework taking so long?
Almost all students struggle at first and spend about two hours a night on it.  After a few weeks, their ability improves and it takes about one hour.  Give it a month-and-a-half and almost all students can complete the questions in ½ hour or less. Remember that I am available before or after school to help you. If it has been more than a few weeks and things aren't getting better, come in and talk to me.
I handed in a late assignment X days ago. Why isn't it in yet?
Late assignments do not carry the same priority as on-time assignments. It was not an emergency to get it in on time; it is not an emergency to grade it on time.
I am going/went on vacation for X weeks. I need to make up bell ringers. How can I do that?
You can't make up bell ringers. I do not grade them out of the full points possible for those who were sick or had a brief absence. Vacation is certainly not an exception.
Can I do my essay at home and bring it to you?
No. Not only are essays generally timed, but I've just had too many people cheat on them.
Can I redo essays?
Certainly.
What can I do for extra credit?
There is no extra credit available. If you are worried about a grade, redo a quiz.

Quizzes & Tests

How often are the quizzes?
Every Friday, alternating between a full multiple-choice question quiz and a vocabulary quiz.
I failed a quiz. What do I do now?
You have two weeks to redo any quiz (except pop quizzes and bell ringer quizzes). Come in before or after school and redo it.
Are retake quizzes the same as the first quiz?
Not usually. I have a collection of questions from which I draw randomly.
Can I get full credit for a retake?
Absolutely.

Class Activities:

Can I bring in video X to watch in class?
No.
